If your Saab 9-3 Key programming 9-3 key fob starts having issues turning the lock barrel, it may be time to replace it. The process is fairly simple and doesn't require you to visit a dealer. Instead you can complete the process yourself at home, using just the help of a few tools.

First, you'll need prepare the new key. Before you start, disable the anti-theft system by placing blocks underneath your rear wheels and releasing your handbrake. Then, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position, which activates the accessories but it does not start the engine. Repeat this 5 times, and then put the key in the "on" position.

You'll then need to purchase a new case for your key fob. You can find them at any auto parts shop, and they're typically very affordable. You can get them with or without electronics, depending on the model.
