Choosing a large bedside cot - Full Statement,

Bedside cots (also known as co-sleepers and bassinets) are designed to allow parents to rest with their baby at night without fear of SIDS. However they are only recommended for use up to 6 months when your baby is required to be moved into a cot, or a moses basket.

MFM home tester Mehack was impressed that this model features a lift-off bassinet you can use around the house and an option to rock manually. It was simple to put together, and even came with a travel bag.

Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They are smaller than. Cots can also convert into toddler beds. However, cots are usually only used by children up to the age of three. There are two sizes of wooden cots, large and standard, which can be transformed into a toddler bed or cot. If you'd like your child (or children) to be comfortable sleeping in a larger cot, it's a good idea to choose the larger size.

Height

When you are choosing a crib that is bedside, choose one that can be adjusted to the ideal height for you. It should also be able to be lowered away from the way, so you can raise your child towards you to feed them at night or comfort him. This feature is especially helpful in the event of recovering from C-section. Another thing to think about is the height you would like to set for the cot's base to be. This makes it perfect for new mothers who are recovering from Caesarean or require bed for longer durations of time. Jasmine is an MFM mom who tried this product at home, said that it was simple to use and made it easier for her to reach her baby, especially after the C-section.

Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which won Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the category of Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket and comes with a machine-washable liner, reflux incline and rocking feature. It's a bit larger than some of the other cribs that we've looked at, but it folds flat in its bag for travel, so it is relatively compact when not in use.

Its swivelling base is brilliant as it means you can move the bassinet from side to side and one of its sides can be lowered down to ease access especially for mothers who are recovering from their C-sections', she said.

Safety

A large bedside cot's main security feature is that it is able to be moved up or down so that parents can reach their child to feed, comfort or change his or her diaper. This makes it ideal for mothers who are recovering from the C-section. Look for a design that allows you to lower one side at the push of a button. This way, you can effortlessly lift your baby without getting out of the bed. This is especially important as your baby grows older and becomes more mobile. Avoid adding anything that could increase the risk of injury or suffocation, like duvets and pillows which could cause your baby bedside cot to overheat.

The CPSC's NPR includes 24 incidents that are attributed to product-related issues like gaps between a bedside sleeper (adult bed) and the bedside sleeper (12 incidents) and enclosed openings with fabric sides (11) and consumer disassembly (6 incidents).

In its NPR the CPSC looked into the possibility of introducing additional requirements to bedside sleepers. For instance they would need to meet the minimum height requirements for bassinets, or at the very least, the maximum height requirements for the lowered rail. The CPSC decided, however, that these requirements weren't feasible or effective in reducing amount of instances where infants are entrapped by a bedside rail and an adult bed.

The majority of the incidents covered in the NPR concerned multi-use bedside travel crib sleepers which can be converted to other modes, such as bassinets or play yards. Several commenters suggested that the CPSC include in the proposed rule an alternative option for multi-use bedside beds to enable them to meet the minimum side-height requirement for bassinets using an attachment that is removable and can be permanently connected or disconnected when the product is not being used as an actual bassinet.

The CPSC is currently examining these and other comments received in response to its NPR regarding bedside sleepers. The Commission will take into account these comments when deciding on the final rule that is expected to come out in November 2021.
