However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we tested the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station's external dustbin. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its base.
