WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will show an image of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will be less expensive, even when they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of options. They can choose to use Flightstones which are a common upgrade currency available to everyone players, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of items. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrades upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrader mod in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
