Types of UPVC Door Handles

The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) along with the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rod that pivots around a point. When you apply a force to the end of the lever, it tends to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the applied force. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would normally require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point at which you apply force by the distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of lever.

Levers can produce different effects based on the method by which forces are applied. A class 2 lever for instance has a tendency of turning in the opposite direction when an effort force is applied. If you press on the door handle and force it to open, the forces will cause the same rotational effects as this.

However, levers don't create energy. They simply multiply the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force applied over a shorter distance. This is what allows you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, and that is why levers are commonly used for lifting heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. The principle of the lever is also used in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs, when you stand on the hand brake of your car.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles are a type of upvc door handle that has levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. These are available in various finishes and variations and can be used on a wide range of materials such as UPVC doors, aluminium window handle doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the outside and the interior doors, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in handed and unhandled versions to suit different types of users.

These are often used for new constructions and can be fitted to replace doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open all the multipoint locks and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They provide additional security compared to lever handles for doors since the locking window handle mechanism is only accessible via the inside using an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.

They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt but are a reasonable alternative to add security. The only downside is that they don't have the same level of security like a cylinder bolt and therefore won't prevent access from outside if the door has been left open.

In certain situations the snib button can cause problems, especially when you have older locks and doors that are distorted. If the snib is applied in a mistake or by a person who isn't used to it, the door can slam shut and shut you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is typically used for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key if the lock has not been deadlocked. This is achieved with the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.

This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks which use split spindle mechanisms. This type of operation requires the lever handle and the external pad handle to be fitted within the same lock case. It is a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles, but it could also involve changing the lock case or a brand new set of handle furniture to allow for this added functionality.

These aluminum levers and movable pad door handles are ideal for uPVC doors and feature a maintenance free slide bearing as well as spring cassettes, and fixing lugs provided. They feature a euro-style cut out and can be installed to a variety of uPVC and timber doors.

The lever handles are among the most common kinds of upvc door handles. They are available in various designs. It consists of two inline handles that can be moved and locked with a thumbturn cylinder or a key. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever/lever handle and consists of an adjustable or fixed pad that can be used to control the lock. These Fullex handles have a spring-loaded lever pads with snibs that can be triggered to stop the latch from closing.
