Types of UPVC Door Handles

The most important measurements to consider are the measurement A (also known as PZ) along with the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum will tend to move in the direction of the force is applied. This rotation multiplies the force applied and allows you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you tried to apply directly to the load.

The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases as the lever gets extended. You can calculate the advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.

Levers can also have different effects based on the way in which forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction as the effort force is applied (like a teeter-totter). If you push on the door's handle and force it to open, the forces will cause the same rotational effects as this.

However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move massive quantities of cargo. The lever principle is used in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs, as you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles are a type of door handle made from UPVC that has levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. These are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be installed on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the inner and exterior sliding patio door handle replacement, with spindles and screws included. They are available in hand and unhandled versions to meet the needs of different users.

These can be used to replace an existing upvc door. The levers are raised to open all the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide additional security compared to standard lever door handles since the locking mechanism can only be accessed via the inside using a key unless the door is deadlocked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder lock, but they're a cost-effective way to add extra security to your home. The only drawback is that they don't provide the same level protection like a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to your home if the door is left open.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches, the simplest of door handles are commonly used. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it shut, and can be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles work similar to the doorknob, however with an additional knob, similar to a doorknob.

A snib button is very useful, especially for homes where it's important to protect privacy or ensure security. You can use the snib handle to stop your guest from entering until they are ready. This type handle can also be put in for doors in the interior, like those in bedrooms where you want to limit access from outside.

In some instances the snib button can cause problems, especially when you have older locks or doors that are bent. If the snib button was accidentally pressed by a person who isn't familiar with it, the door may slam and lock you out. Usually, you can still gain entry by knocking on the door's frame or the letterbox, but this isn't ideal.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is typically used for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key if the lock has not been deadlocked. This is accomplished by a 'pad' shaped external door handles and locks handle that locks into the gap between the handles and the lock case to stop the latch from being pulled back or the door being opened.

This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement of the existing uPVC handle, but it may also require a lock case change or a new set to handle furniture.

Lever/Moveable Snib

The lever/lever handles are one of the most commonly used types of upvc doors handles and hinges. They are available in a variety of designs. It is comprised of two handles that can be locked and moved with a thumbturn cylinder or a key. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever/lever handle. It is made up of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pads that have a snib that can be turned on to stop the latch from closing.
