WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item level upgrade, inquiry, is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrade's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the Best item upgrader and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. Crests

Another important change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
