Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the vehicle or start the engine and even locate the vehicle.

Place the fob's face up on a clean surface. Find the button that releases it, place a coin between the fob and the cover and pull it up slowly.

Locking the Doors

Volvo's remote key fobs can unlock the doors, tailgate and the flap that holds the fuel filler of your vehicle with a press of a button. They also can switch on the ignition, set the alarm, and even operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never have to look for your keys or lose access to your vehicle.

If you're a new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unfamiliar with some of its key fob hidden features. One of them is an unlocked and lock button that can be pressed in the event the battery on your key fob goes out.

Place your key fob on the table with the Volvo logo facing upwards to unlock or lock the manual lock. Locate the black button that is near the edge of the body of the key fob, and gently press it to open a cover that conceals the manual key blade. You will require a flathead screwdriver, or a coin to flip the cover counterclockwise so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

The Engine is Ready to Start

Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, like any battery-operated electronic device the key fob may lose its charge or cease working over time. If you notice that your key fob becomes less responsive when you hit the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace the battery.

If your vehicle is fitted with an installed dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also use the key fob to activate this feature. The car will heat or cool to the same temperature it was set to when it was parked and it can run for up to 15 minutes.

With a fingernail, remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal close to the body's edge, there is an unidentified button. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will be released, and then slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you're still unable to locate the button, search around the newly exposed manual key access to see whether there's a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

Volvo key fobs come with an option that hides behind them that allows you to instantly roll down all the windows. This is a great feature in situations where you need to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or just want to breathe fresh air while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your volvo xc60 key fob remote control for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, and the sunroof, if your car has one. After that, once you're done with your car, you can close everything by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.

You can also set off the panic alarm inside your car with the key fob. This will emit a loud, attention-grabbing blare that will frighten off thieves and help you get home at a safe distance after a night out. This feature is useful if you reside in a hazardous area or wish to ensure the safety of your family while away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo's key fob is packed with many useful features. These are great when you're slammed with shopping, or helping your children pack their sports gear after a session.

If you have the Hands Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped), then you can open it using the key fob. Just press the button to open it and then press the same button to close it once you're done.

When you're ready to get your car started then use the key fob to push the START button (and do not worry about the battery dying or your car not starting since it comes with a backup mechanical key slot too). This is only one of the many helpful tricks for your brand new volvo v70 key.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more efficient than a traditional car key. However, they're not able to work in a perfect way for a long time, and their batteries eventually go out of service. You can program your key fob at home if you are in a rush or don't have time to visit the store.

Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery as well as any additional keys. Place the key fob on the surface with the volvo small key fob logo facing upwards and then locate a tiny black button on the left-hand side of the fob and slide it to the right. The cover should come loose and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath it.

You can open all the doors as well as the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob twice. The lock button also shuts the windows and sunroof (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owners manual should contain a procedure to reset the alarm.
